EPOXY RESIN BINDER

Epoxy resins for highway purposes are available in clear, dark, rigid and flexible forms and thus can be applied over either concrete or bituminous pavements. Hardening is accomplished by mixing resin and hardener immediately before applications the resulting material is thermosetting that is, it will not soften under heat or the action of solvents such as water or petroleum fuels. Because of their cost the use of epoxy resins to date has been largely restricted to bridge resurfacing or other special nonskid seal coating operations. AASHO Designation M 200-731 gives both specifications and recommended practice for installing coal-tar epoxy protecting coatings.
